Events – 2nd semester 2011

• Conference of the Smart Cities and Communities Initiative, June 21, 2011, Brussels, Belgium

This Launch-Conference will bring together high-profile speakers and participants from different branches of the energy industry, including Energy Service Companies, the ICT sector representatives, know-how and examples from cities; from different disciplines of academia and from EU politics, including Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger, as well as technical experts on financing instruments and EU-energy, transport and ICT politics. The Smart Cities and Communities Stakeholder Forum aims at facilitating city partnering, the creation of business opportunities and the replication of successful smart solutions.

• 17th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP17), November 28 – December 9, 2011, Durban, South Africa

This Conference of the Parties will discuss a comprehensive long-term climate change framework. It will also implement the decisions from Cancun (December 2010) and build up the institutions that have been detailed in the “Cancun Agreement”.

• Energy Transparency Award 2011, November 9, 2011, Brussels, Belgium

The “Energy Transparency Award”, to be assigned every year in November in Brussels, will distinguish a company or institution for their particular contribution to the transparency of energy markets in Europe. All nominations and supporting materials must be received no later than July 15, 2011.

• Conference : “Energy efficiency – an economic and social responsibility”

January 24, 2012. 5-8 PM, Paris Dauphine University (amphitheater Raymond Aron), Place du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny, 75016 PARIS, France.

Energy efficiency is now considered by experts and politicians alike to be one of the primary economic and social solutions to the current energy crisis. This conference organised by Rexel and the CGEMP will be the opportunity to draw up concrete energy efficiency programs and to explore a number of different avenues :
-    How will energy efficiency measures be able to bring about cost savings and create jobs?
-    How do users behave when confronted with these issues and how can we assist them, in particular in residential buildings?
-    Faced with these developments in technology and practices, what role should companies operating in the energy sector, public authorities and consumers play, in France and in Europe?

• European Info Day – Intelligent Energy Europe, January 24, 2012, Brussels, Belgium

The Info Day will give an update on the European policy for renewable energies and energy efficiency and present the IEE programme, as well as the priorities of the 2012 call for proposals. It will offer stakeholders an opportunity to network and to find project partners.

The annual Solar Days aim to raise public awareness of intelligent energy solutions and behaviours throughout Europe, particularly for Solar Thermal and Photovoltaics.

• EU Sustainable Energy Week 2012, June 18-22, 2012, Brussels, Belgium

The EU Sustainable Energy Week 2012 will gather during three days stakeholders of the EU renewable energy and energy efficiency policy.

• United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, June 20-22, 2012 Rio de Janeiro

Twenty years after the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992, the international conference Rio+20 will take stock of progress in the field of sustainable development.
